Where do you turn when the Journey of Life takes an unexpected turn?

At some point in life, each and every one of us will have to face the unexpected. Some people may make it all the way through their life without having to face anything majorly out of the ordinary. But that person would probably be classed as very fortunate by the rest of us. As much as we try and hide from or ignore it, we live in an unstable world. The reality is that we wake up each morning having no idea what may come our way that day.

Maybe you thrive on the unexpected, or, perhaps you live your life never taking chances, because the thought of something unforeseen happening cripples you with fear. Regardless of whether you love or hate the unpredictable nature of life, sometimes, an unexpected event occurs that pulls the rug from under us. Something so big that it shakes us to our very core. It sideswipes us. Like being hit by a freight train or one of those massive ocean waves that smash into you when your back is turned. It consumes you. Envelopes you. Leaves you gasping for air and not knowing whether you’ll be able to get your head back above the water.

It’s highly likely, that for some of you, even as you’re reading this, you’re going through an experience like that and you’re not sure where to turn. Well, my 2018 started very much with that kind of experience. Long story short, I got something called Infective Endocarditis and nearly died. It came completely out of the blue and turned mine, and my families lives upside down. I spent just over three months in the hospital and had multiple procedures, including open heart surgery.

I started this blog to help me revisit everything that happened and process it in a healthy way. Let’s call it written therapy. I can tell you one thing for sure. I wouldn’t have made it through if it wasn’t for my family, friends and faith. My hope, as I share my story, is that some of what I say may help others who are facing difficult chapters in their own story.

It will probably be best read as a story so my suggestion would be to scroll back to my first post and start from there.
